Prisma + MariaDB in production: lessons from 50 deployments
Driver adapters, connection pooling, migrations on deploy and zero-downtime schema changes.
By GoDesine Admin
Prisma’s driver adapters make MariaDB a first-class, lightweight choice for TypeScript apps.
Use the MariaDB driver adapter
The adapter runs on the native mariadb driver — no binary query engine to ship — which keeps deployments small and cold starts fast.
Pool connections
Set a sensible connectionLimit per process and reuse one client instance across hot reloads.
Migrate on deploy
Run prisma migrate deploy in your deploy script before restarting the app. Make schema changes backwards-compatible: add, backfill, then remove.
Store money as integers
Cents in an INT column avoid floating-point surprises entirely.
